How do you coach a "thriving" mindset? This one hour workshop is designed to help coaches explore how the fundamentals of happiness and positive psychology can be utilized in their personal and professional practices. Through presentation, discussion, and practical exercises, participants will gain insights into the science of happiness and leave with actionable coaching strategies to enhance the well-being practices of their clients.

This workshop will explore the how the following happiness models may be used in a Coaching Relationship: PERMA, Broaden-and-Build, Flow, SCERT, and Positive Intelligence. The ICF Core Competencies to be addressed will be 1. Embodies a Coaching Mindset, 2. Listens Actively, 7. Evokes Awareness, and 8. Facilitates Client Growth.

In addition to presentation and discussion (depending on time remaining) 1-2 Happiness Building Techniques will be demonstrated. Resources for further study of Happiness will be provided.

Learning objectives:
  • Increase awareness of multiple foundational models for Happiness that could be utilized in a coaching practice.
  • Explore how to maintain a Coaching Mindset by using coaching questions to build on the happiness of clients
  • Provide additional resources for Happiness Study for Coaches and Clients

Interactive Experience:
In addition to discussion of foundational models, we will work with the Broaden-and-Build Model through gratitude or another positive habit. If time, we will do a Flow Exercise that will include breathing, focus, and memory.


Presenter's Bio
Dr. Michelle Gray is a Professional Certified Coach (ICF) and a Full Member of the International Society for Coaching Psychology. She was initially trained as a Thinking Partner by Nancy Klein in 1991 and has been coaching professionally that time. Michelle has specializations in Executive, Life, Relationship, Organizational, Solution-Oriented, and Creative Depth coaching. In other words, she is a life-long learner in the world of Coaching and always curious for more.

Michelle has taught Coaching and Consulting at various colleges and universities. She is a Licensed Psychologist and a Fellow in Marriage and Family Therapy who retired from clinical practice in 2022. Currently, she focuses on her art, her coaching practice, and teaching at the community college as a service.
